Dr Meghann Drury-Grogan is a Senior Lecturer II and Head of Department for Enterprise and Technology at the School of Business, Atlantic Technological University in Galway City. She manages multiple undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, develops programs and strategic relationships with industry and academic partners, and builds research capacity within the school. She was awarded a PhD and MA in Organisational Communication from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL, USA), a Higher Diploma in Business Studies from University of Galway (Galway, Ireland), and a BA in Communication Studies, English and Art History from Canisius College (Buffalo, NY, USA).
Dr Drury-Grogan is an internationally recognised thought leader in communication, decision making, and project management. She has taught international academic and practitioner audiences at all levels. Her graduate and undergraduate courses focus on business and professional communication, leadership communication, project management, consulting skills, decision making, and global business.
Dr Drury-Grogan has received numerous academic and industry awards: Poets & Quants Top 40 Professors Under 40, the Student’s Choice for Most Impactful Graduate Faculty Stanley Fuchs Award at Fordham University; top paper awards at NCA, IEEE Software, ICIS IRWIT Project Management international conferences; top reviewer awards; and client awards at Deloitte Consulting LLP.
Prior to academia, Dr Drury-Grogan worked for Deloitte Consulting LLP as an organisation and change management consultant developing communication strategies; implementing change and communication plans; and designing governance models, decision making frameworks and organisation structures across industries, including Fortune 500 companies and public sector.
Dr Drury-Grogan’s research on organisational communication, project management, agile teams, and decision making uses both quantitative and qualitative methods and has been published in leading international journals. Her PhD focused on decision making and communication on risky decisions during organisational.
Currently, her research examines women in leadership roles in the IT industry and communication patterns to support diversity and inclusion on teams. She has examined changing team cognition and cognitive artifact use as agile projects progress to better understand project team member interactions. She has identified decision characteristics and challenges for agile and lean software development project teams and developed a model for sustaining agile and lean project management methods in organisations.
Dr Drury-Grogan has published in leading international journals. She serves as a reviewer for prestigious journals in the communication and software development fields and as track co-chairs at ECIS and AMCIS.
She has managed research teams from 3 – 10 people and has international experience in securing €2.9M grant funding at Science Foundation Ireland and €1.1M industry contribution in kind. She has supervised multiple master students and doctoral students.
