Bio

Ronan McArt is a lecturer in Innovation and Entrepreneurship with 2 decades of teaching, programme leadership and external examiner experience. Ronan graduated from Ulster University with a BA in Business and later, an MSc in E-Business and Information Innovation before progressing to work with the University of Galway and ATU St Angela’s. Initially teaching Business and Accounting on Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes, Ronan became a Programme Director for the BSc in Nutrition, Food and Business Management, a role that involved working closely with Food SME’s and LSE’s all over the island of Ireland and the UK.

Extremely passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation of young people to pursue entrepreneurial career pathways Ronan pursued additional postgraduate training in Education receiving a Master’s in Education in 2010 and completing the inaugural ACE Enterprise and Entrepreneurial learning programme with DCU in 2014. Ronan is in the final year of his PhD research which examines the design and implementation of youth entrepreneurship education in post primary education in Ireland. In 2022 Ronan was the recipient of Enterprise Ireland Academic Award for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Active investor and advisor in startup businesses with over 30 years involvement in family business.

Research & Engagement

Ronan’s research focuses on Entrepreneurship Education (EE). Research has examined the means of improving the confidence of young people to innovatively tackle social and ecological problems their communities and turning these ideas into business opportunities.

Ronan has presented ongoing research at the European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship since 2021.

Past research has also examined embedding entrepreneurship education across universities in Ireland and Ronan was invited to present related research to the Minister for Education at Farmleigh House in 2014.

Ronan has worked with food industry partners to design and supervise student research that sought to resolve partner challenges and identify solutions.

Commencing research seeks to understand and build communities of social innovators to tackle problems in isolated communities.

Ronan has extensive experience supervising graduate and postgraduate research projects but extremely interested in supervising research projects in the areas of inclusive entrepreneurship, Design Thinking, innovative approaches to entrepreneurship education, particularly educational approaches related to enhancing Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy (ESE) and Entrepreneurial Intention (EI).
